I am Brent Zwart, and I build high-quality scale model ships for clients who want a unique way to represent a vessel. My interest in ships started at an early age—my first word was even “boat”—and over time that interest grew into building detailed scale models. Many ship owners, companies, and former crew members would love to have a model of a vessel, but often no ready-made model exists and original drawings are no longer available. That is where I can help. Using photos and available references, I recreate ships as accurate scale models that capture the character of the original vessel. I mainly build smaller scales such as 1/700 and 1/350, which are perfect as commemorative gifts, display pieces at events, or as a visual selling point, although larger scales are also possible. My goal is always to create a model that truly represents the ship and matches the wishes of the client.

Historical Research & Documentation
To create an accurate ship model and a true representation of its former self, detailed ship plans are essential. These include line plans, general arrangements, and other technical documents. Using specialized tools and a network of experts, I research each vessel in depth to understand its construction, history, and appearance as accurately as possible.
Digital Design & Model Construction
I build scale model ships from the ground up using a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques. Each ship is first designed digitally before being built using different materials and methods, ranging from 3D printing to traditional woodworking. This workflow allows me to achieve a strong balance between accuracy, efficiency, and cost.
Restoration, Repair & Rebranding
I restore existing ship models by carrying out repairs, adding new details, and refreshing paintwork to bring them back to life. When needed, I can also fully transform a model by changing colors, details, and visual elements, allowing it to represent a different vessel while maintaining a high level of realism.

I got in touch with Brent after noticing his work during the harbour days in IJmuiden. I saw what he was making with a 3D printer and decided to reach out. We wanted a model of the steam tug Adelaar because of the ship’s 100th anniversary. The model was successfully made in great detail, entirely based on photos since there were no original construction drawings available. Communication went very smoothly through WhatsApp during the whole process. We are very satisfied with the seven models Brent made for us. They are perfect. Thanks again!
